OUR HISTORYThe history of Bihos Srl began even before it was established, in 1983.
As a young boy, Gianfranco Bidoia accompanied his father, a dealer in medical
equipment, to his appointments at hospitals. This aroused his interest in innovation
and the desire to make something creative for the hospital sector, where he had
noticed several shortcomings in terms of specific professional footwear for wards and
All this encouraged Gianfranco to carry out studies and research that would lead to
very interesting results. He found a valid way to bridge this gap by using and
processing new plastic compounds.
To give form and substance to his idea, he decided to set up a company called Bihos
Srl, a name that derives from the acronym of Bidoia and Hospital, to mark the two
aspects of this company: the strong human and family factor and the sector that had
made all this possible.
In 1999, Gianfranco’s daughter, Roberta, also became part of this project. With her
expertise in business management, she soon became a key player in the

A NEED THAT LED TO AN IDEA
Gianfranco Bidoia’s insight gave shape to a product that would mark the company’s history more than any other. The complete lack of sterilizable anti-static footwear to meet the needs of medical environments became increasingly apparent, especially with the introduction in hospitals of electronic appliances subject to power surges and with the application of new regulations for them. In the early 1980s, new materials arrived. Gianfranco immediately saw the potential and endeavoured, with a team of experts, to develop a new plastic compound that could meet these specific fundamental needs of the sector. Unique footwear was created with innovative technical properties that soon made them essential for hospital professionals. The new footwear can be sterilized in an autoclave. It is antistatic, comfortable and, thanks to its shapes and colours it is fun and dynamic, although mainly used in the professional sector. In 1984, the prototype was patented and presented at a renowned trade fair for the hospital sector. Its unique features and the fact that it is entirely MADE in ITALY led to instant success, which, over the years to come, would bring the development of many other products designed not only for the medical sector but also for the leisure sector.
